What God wants in those who serve him.
Jehovah God, by his words and acts, has, over the
centuries, proved that he is a God of love and
undeserved kindness, exercising perfect justice and
judgment, and extending mercy to those seeking to serve
Ps 89:14; see MERCY; RIGHTEOUSNESS.) Even to the
ungrateful and wicked he has expressed kindness. (Mt
Ro 5:8) He delights in the fact that his sovereignty
is administered in love.—Jer
Accordingly, the kind of persons he
desires in his universe are persons who serve him
because of love for him and for his fine qualities. They
must love God first and their neighbor second. (Mt
22:37-39) They must love Jehovah’s sovereignty; they
must desire it and prefer it over any other. (Ps
84:10) They must be persons that, even if it were
possible for them to become independent, would choose
His sovereignty because they know that his rulership is
far wiser, more righteous, and better than any other. (Isa
Ro 7:18) Such persons serve God not merely because
of fear of his almightiness nor for selfish reasons but
out of love of his righteousness, justice, and wisdom
and because of having the knowledge of Jehovah’s
greatness and loving-kindness. (Ps
163) They exclaim with the apostle Paul: "O the
depth of God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How
unsearchable his judgments are and past tracing out his
ways are! For ‘who has come to know Jehovah’s mind, or
who has become his counselor?’ Or, ‘Who has first given
to him, so that it must be repaid to him?’ Because from
him and by him and for him are all things. To him be the
glory forever. Amen."—Ro
Such ones come to know God,
and really knowing him means to love him and stick to
his sovereignty. The apostle John writes: "Everyone
remaining in union with him does not practice sin; no
one that practices sin has either seen him or come to
know him." And, "He that does not love has not come to
know God, because God is love." (1Jo
4:8) Jesus knew his Father better than anyone else.
He said: "All things have been delivered to me by my
Father, and no one fully knows the Son but the Father,
neither does anyone fully know the Father but the Son
and anyone to whom the Son is willing to reveal him."—Mt

34:6-7) And Jehovah went passing by before his face and
declaring: "Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth,
7 preserving loving-kindness for thousands,
pardoning error and transgression and sin, but by no means will
he give exemption from punishment, bringing punishment for the
error of fathers upon sons and upon grandsons, upon the third
generation and upon the fourth generation."
89:14) Righteousness and judgment are the established
place of your throne; Loving-kindness and trueness
themselves come in before your face.
5:45) that YOU may prove yourselves sons of YOUR Father
who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise upon
wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people
6:35) To the contrary, continue to love YOUR enemies and
to do good and to lend [without interest], not hoping for
anything back; and YOUR reward will be great, and YOU will be
sons of the Most High, because he is kind toward the unthankful
5:8) But God recommends his own love to us in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9:24) "But let the one bragging about himself brag about
himself because of this very thing, the having of insight
and the having of knowledge of me, that I am Jehovah, the One
exercising loving-kindness, justice and righteousness in the
earth; for in these things I do take delight," is the utterance
22:37-39) He said to him: "‘You must love Jehovah your
God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with
your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and
first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is
this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’
84:10) For a day in your courtyards is better than a
thousand [elsewhere]. I have chosen to stand at the
threshold in the house of my God Rather than to move around in
the tents of wickedness.
55:8-11) "For the thoughts of YOU people are not my
thoughts, nor are my ways YOUR ways," is the utterance of
Jehovah. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than
the earth, so my ways are higher than YOUR ways, and my thoughts
than YOUR thoughts. 10 For just as the pouring
rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not
return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and
makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the
sower and bread to the eater, 11 so my word
that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not
return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in
which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that
for which I have sent it.
10:23) I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his
way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is
walking even to direct his step.
7:18) For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, there
dwells nothing good; for ability to wish is present with me,
but ability to work out what is fine is not [present].
97:10) O YOU lovers of Jehovah, hate what is bad. He is
guarding the souls of his loyal ones; Out of the hand of the
wicked ones he delivers them.
119:104) Owing to your orders I behave with
understanding. That is why I have hated every false path.
119:128) That is why I have considered all orders
regarding all things to be right; Every false path I have
119:163) Falsehood I have hated, and I do keep detesting
it. Your law I have loved.
11:33-36) O the depth of God’s riches and wisdom and
knowledge! How unsearchable his judgments [are] and past
tracing out his ways [are]! 34 For "who has
come to know Jehovah’s mind, or who has become his counselor?"
35 Or, "Who has first given to him, so that it
must be repaid to him?" 36 Because from him
and by him and for him are all things. To him be the glory
3:6) Everyone remaining in union with him does not
practice sin; no one that practices sin has either seen him
or come to know him.
4:8) He that does not love has not come to know God,
because God is love.
11:27) All things have been delivered to me by my Father,
and no one fully knows the Son but the Father, neither does
anyone fully know the Father but the Son and anyone to whom the
Son is willing to reveal him.
